Voice Messages, Text Messages & Drawings

Beyond photos and videos, Fotify lets guests contribute voice messages, text messages, and digital drawings to your event. These content types turn your upload page into a rich digital guestbook where guests can leave personal audio notes, written wishes, or hand-drawn art.

Content types vary by plan:

  • Free — Not included
  • Photo Gallery — Text messages only
  • Premium Event — Text messages, voice messages, and drawings

What Are Content Types?

By default, guests can upload photos (and videos on Premium plans). Content types let you expand what guests can share. Availability depends on your plan — Photo Gallery includes text messages, while Premium Event unlocks all three.

Content TypeWhat It IsBest For
Voice MessagesShort audio recordings guests record directly in the browserPersonal congratulations, spoken wishes, audio guestbook entries
Text MessagesWritten messages guests type on the upload pageQuick notes, well-wishes, feedback, or short stories
DrawingsDigital sketches guests create on a built-in canvasFun doodles, kids' contributions, creative messages, visual guestbook

All three are optional — you enable only the ones you want.

Step 1: Enable Content Types

  1. Go to your Dashboard and select your event
  2. Click Photos in the sidebar
  3. In the Actions section, click Content Types
  4. Toggle on the content types you want to enable:
    • Voice Messages — Lets guests record audio
    • Text Messages — Lets guests write messages
    • Drawing — Lets guests sketch on a canvas
  5. Click Save to apply

Each content type can be enabled or disabled independently. You can change these settings at any time, even during a live event.

Voice Messages

When voice messages are enabled, guests see a microphone tab on the upload page.

How Guests Record

  1. Guest taps the Voice tab on the upload page
  2. Taps the record button to start recording
  3. Speaks their message (up to 60 seconds)
  4. Optionally adds their name and a written message
  5. Taps Send to submit

Where Voice Messages Appear

  • In your event album alongside photos
  • On the live carousel — voice messages display as a compact audio card with the guest's name while the audio plays
  • Voice messages can be moderated just like photos (approved/rejected)

Tips for Voice Messages

  • Let guests know they can leave voice messages — not everyone will notice the tab
  • Voice messages work great at weddings for personal congratulations
  • Each recording is limited to 60 seconds to keep messages concise

Text Messages

When text messages are enabled, guests see a message tab on the upload page.

How Guests Write Messages

  1. Guest taps the Message tab on the upload page
  2. Enters their name (optional, up to 50 characters)
  3. Types their message (up to 500 characters)
  4. Taps Send to submit

Where Text Messages Appear

  • In your event album as text cards
  • On the live carousel — messages display with the guest's name on screen
  • Text messages can be moderated just like photos

Tips for Text Messages

  • Great as a digital guestbook alternative
  • Works well for corporate events where guests may want to share feedback
  • Guests with poor internet can still participate since text is lightweight

Drawings

When drawing is enabled, guests see a drawing tab on the upload page with a built-in digital canvas.

How Guests Draw

  1. Guest taps the Draw tab on the upload page
  2. Uses the canvas tools to sketch:
    • Multiple brush colors to choose from
    • Adjustable brush size
    • Eraser tool
    • Undo/redo buttons
    • Clear canvas option
  3. Optionally adds their name and a message
  4. Taps Send to submit the drawing as an image

Where Drawings Appear

  • In your event album as regular images
  • On the live carousel alongside photos
  • Drawings are moderated like any other photo

Tips for Drawings

  • Perfect for events with kids — let them contribute without needing a camera
  • Display them on the live carousel for a fun, interactive element
  • Great for leaving visual well-wishes (hearts, smiley faces, short illustrated notes)

Content Types on the Live Carousel

All content types can appear on the live carousel. In the carousel settings, you can individually toggle which types to display:

  • Show Voice Messages — Voice plays through speakers while a card with the guest's name is displayed
  • Show Text Messages — Written messages appear on screen
  • Show Drawings — Drawings display like regular photos

This lets you curate the carousel experience — for example, show photos and drawings but skip voice messages if you don't have speakers set up.

Moderation

All content types go through the same moderation workflow as photos:

  • Auto Approve — Content appears immediately
  • Manual Approval — You review each submission before it's visible
  • AI Moderation — AI reviews content automatically (photos and drawings only; voice messages require manual review)

See How to Approve & Reject Photos for details on moderation settings.
