Static QR codes encode the destination URL directly into the QR pattern — free forever, never expire, but the destination can't be changed after printing. Dynamic QR codes use a redirect, which means the destination can be edited later but typically requires a paid subscription. We make static QR codes.

QR (Quick Response) codes are 2D barcodes that encode data in a square pattern of black and white modules. When a phone camera scans the pattern, it decodes the data — usually a URL — and prompts the user to open it. They were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking car parts.

Minimum 1 inch (2.5 cm) square for short scanning distances, 2 inches (5 cm) for table cards, and 4 inches (10 cm) or more for large posters and signage. Bigger is always more reliable. SVG export scales perfectly to any size.

Top causes: (1) too small — increase size, (2) low contrast — make sure dots are darker than background, (3) damaged or distorted print, (4) URL too long — try shortening it, (5) too much logo coverage — try a smaller logo or higher error correction (Q or H).

Static QR codes can't be edited — the URL is baked in. If you need to change the destination, generate a new QR code. If you anticipate the destination changing, point your QR at a stable redirect (e.g. a bit.ly or your own domain) and edit that redirect instead.

Static QR codes don't track scans natively. If you need scan analytics, encode a URL with UTM parameters and track via Google Analytics, or use a redirect service that provides click data. For Fotify event QR codes, you can see photo upload stats inside your dashboard.
