How to Customize Song Request Form Fields
The song request form can be customized to collect the information most relevant to your event. Add optional fields or custom questions to make the form work for your specific needs.
Default Form Fields
By default, the song request form includes:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Song Title | Yes | The name of the requested song |
| Artist | Yes | The artist or band name |
| Your Name | Optional | Who is making the request |
The Song Title and Artist fields are always required to ensure the DJ has enough information to find the song.
Optional Built-in Fields
You can show or hide these optional fields:
Requested By (Your Name)
Shows a "Your Name" field so guests can identify themselves. This helps the DJ:
- Give shoutouts when playing requests
- Prioritize requests from special guests
- Add a personal touch to the music experience
Message Field
Add an optional message field where guests can include notes like:
- "Play this for the bride!"
- "This is our first dance song"
- "Dedicated to the birthday girl"
Custom Fields
Create custom fields to collect specific information:
Available Field Types
- Text - Short text input
- Text Area - Longer text for messages
- Number - Numeric input
- Select - Dropdown with predefined options
Example Custom Fields
- Genre preference (Select: Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Country, etc.)
- Table number (Number)
- Special occasion (Text: Birthday, Anniversary, etc.)
- Dedication message (Text Area)
Request Cooldown (Rate Limiting)
Prevent guests from spamming song requests by setting a cooldown period:
How Cooldown Works
- Set a waiting period (in minutes) between submissions from the same device
- After submitting a request, guests see a countdown showing when they can submit again
- Cooldown is enforced server-side so it can't be bypassed
Configuring Cooldown
- Go to Event → DJ Dashboard → Form Settings
- Find the Request Cooldown setting
- Enter the number of minutes (e.g., 5 for a 5-minute cooldown)
- Set to 0 to disable cooldown (unlimited requests)
Recommended Settings
- Casual party: 2-3 minutes (more frequent requests)
- Wedding reception: 5-10 minutes (balanced)
- Corporate event: 10-15 minutes (fewer, more considered requests)
Tip: Start with a moderate cooldown (5 minutes) and adjust based on how many requests you're receiving.
Configuring Form Settings
To customize your song request form:
- Go to Event in the sidebar
- Click DJ Dashboard
- Click Form Settings (gear icon)
- Toggle fields on/off and add custom fields
- Save your changes
Changes apply immediately to the public song request form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I make the "Your Name" field required? A: Currently, the name field is always optional to encourage more song submissions. The Song Title and Artist fields are required.
Q: Will existing requests show new custom fields? A: No, custom fields only appear on new requests submitted after you add them. Previous requests maintain their original data.
Q: Can I edit custom fields after creating them? A: Yes, you can edit labels, placeholders, and settings for custom fields at any time.
Q: Is there a limit to custom fields? A: You can add multiple custom fields, but we recommend keeping the form short (2-3 extra fields maximum) so guests are more likely to submit requests.
Q: Can the DJ see custom field responses? A: Yes, all custom field responses appear in the DJ Dashboard and Live Request Display alongside the song details.
Q: How do I prevent guests from spamming requests? A: Set a request cooldown in Form Settings. For example, a 5-minute cooldown means guests must wait 5 minutes between submissions. The cooldown is enforced server-side and shown to guests after they submit.
Q: Can guests bypass the cooldown? A: No, the cooldown is enforced server-side based on device fingerprinting. Guests cannot bypass it by refreshing the page or clearing their browser.
Q: What cooldown period should I use? A: It depends on your event. For casual parties, 2-3 minutes works well. For weddings, 5-10 minutes is recommended. For corporate events, 10-15 minutes helps ensure more considered requests.
Q: How long are song requests stored? A: Song requests remain accessible throughout your event and gallery access period. Once gallery access expires (based on your event plan), all event data including song requests is cleaned up.
