Milestone Template — Complete Guide

Milestone is an invitation for the celebrations that count years: a silver, ruby or golden wedding anniversary, a vow renewal, a retirement or a long-service celebration. The page is an embossed keepsake card stamped in foil: you choose the metal — silver, pearl, ruby, gold or diamond, each with its own gem — and the colour of the card stock. On the cover, an optional medallion carries the number you type, engraved in the foil, above the names in a high-contrast serif.

Milestone is one of Fotify's simpler designs: its look comes from one foil you choose, one card colour — any colour at all — and the number on its medallion.

This guide covers how Milestone looks, the options unique to it, how to apply it to your event, and how it lays out each section of your invitation.

Milestone is available on every plan, Free included.

For an overview of the template gallery and the picker, see How to Customize Your RSVP Invitation.

What makes Milestone different

Standard templates change colours and fonts over the same shared layout. Milestone replaces the layout itself: its own cover and closing, its own section heads, and its own treatment of the message, countdown, gallery, story and itinerary.

Signature design elements

  • Five foils, each with its gem — silver with a sapphire, pearl with a pearl, ruby with a ruby, gold with a topaz, and diamond: a bright platinum foil with a prismatic glint and a diamond
  • A card stock in the colour you pick — pick it from the suggested colours or from the colour picker. A light colour gives a soft tinted card; a deep colour such as midnight or burgundy gives a deep card with bright foil
  • An embossed keepsake card — the cover is a card laid on the stock, with a foil fleuron in each corner and a blind-embossed double frame pressed into it
  • An optional number medallion — a milled foil medallion with the number you type engraved in it, such as "25", "40" or "50", only when you type one
  • The names in a high-contrast serif — Bodoni Moda for the names and titles, and the classic EB Garamond for everything you read
  • A long timeline of the years — every milestone of your story hangs from a double foil rule at a foil plaque engraved with its own date
  • Always readable — whatever colour you pick, even a pale yellow or a near-black, the foil, the text and the buttons are adjusted until they read clearly on the card

When to choose Milestone

Milestone suits celebrations that look back on many years:

  • Wedding anniversaries — pick the foil of the anniversary (silver for the 25th, pearl for the 30th, ruby for the 40th, gold for the 50th, diamond for the 60th), type the number for the medallion and tell the story of your years together
  • Vow renewals — the same keepsake card, with your own cover line and the order of the day
  • Retirements and long-service celebrations — pick any foil, type the years of service for the medallion (or leave it blank), and use the story for the career's milestones

Its default wording stays neutral ("Celebrate this milestone with us"), so it reads as well for a couple as for a colleague. At an anniversary or a retirement party, the photos everyone takes are part of the keepsake: guests can scan the event QR code and add their photos to the shared gallery. For a dinner party or an intimate anniversary dinner, try Supper. For a celebration of life, try Keepsake.

Applying Milestone to your event

  1. Open your event, click Invitation in the sidebar, then the Invitation tab
  2. In Design Template, click Change template if the gallery is collapsed, and find Milestone under Designs (it is listed under the Party filter, and under Elegant and Corporate too)
  3. Optional: press Try it on to see Milestone with your own invitation details in the live preview — nothing is saved until you press Use this design
  4. Or click the Milestone card to apply it straight away
  5. Open Milestone options below the gallery to pick your foil, your card colour and the other options described below. Changes save automatically

Milestone works on every plan. On free events a small "Made with Fotify" badge appears in the bottom corner of the invitation; any paid plan or an active subscription removes it.

Switching to another template later is non-destructive: your event content stays exactly as you entered it, and your Milestone options are kept in case you switch back.

Milestone options

Milestone has five options of its own. They take the place of the standard colour and font controls, which Milestone doesn't use.

1. Foil

The metal stamped on the card, and the gem set beside it:

  • Silver (25th) — a cool silver foil with a sapphire
  • Pearl (30th) — a soft, pearly foil with a pearl
  • Ruby (40th) — a deep ruby-red foil with a ruby
  • Gold (50th) (default) — a warm gold foil with a topaz
  • Diamond (60th) — a bright platinum foil with a prismatic glint and a diamond

The anniversaries in brackets are only a guide. For a retirement or any other milestone, pick the metal you like. The foil never prints a number on the page by itself: only the medallion number (option 3) does.

2. Card stock

The colour of the card the invitation is printed on. Pick it two ways:

  • A suggested swatch — Ivory (default), Blush, Sage, Dove grey, Midnight or Burgundy
  • Pick any color — the last chip opens your device's colour picker, so you can match your flowers, your table linen or a company colour. The colour's code is shown beside the chips

A light colour gives a soft tinted card with dark text; a deep colour gives a deep card with light text and bright foil. Any colour works: the foil, the text and the buttons use the shade that reads clearly on your card.

3. Medallion number

Up to 4 characters, engraved exactly as you type them in a foil medallion on the cover — for example "25", "40", "50" or "XL". Leave it blank to show no medallion. Milestone never works out a number from your dates, your event name or the foil you picked.

4. Cover line

The small line above the names on the cover (up to 80 characters). Leave it blank to use the default ("Celebrate this milestone with us"). Try "Forty years of marriage", "Together with their children" or "Please join us to celebrate the retirement of".

5. Closing line

The line at the end of the page (up to 80 characters). Leave it blank to use the default ("We look forward to celebrating with you").

Every piece of text Milestone prints on the invitation — the cover line, the Kindly reply buttons, the section labels and titles, the countdown units, the closing line — can also be rewritten directly on the page: switch the live preview into edit mode and double-click the text. Section titles you have already set in their own settings (story, countdown, gifts, where to stay, getting there, FAQs) are edited in place the same way.

How each section is treated

Cover

The cover is the keepsake card itself, laid on your card stock, with a foil fleuron in each corner and a blind-embossed double frame:

  • Cover line (option 4) in spaced foil capitals
  • Your cover photo in an emerald-cut window with a foil bevel, keeping the horizontal crop you set
  • The medallion (option 3), when you typed a number: a milled foil medallion with your number engraved in it and the gem of your foil at its crown. With a cover photo it overlaps the foot of the window like a seal; without one it stands on its own over a fine engraved rosette. With neither a photo nor a number, the gem of your foil marks the spot
  • Your event name in the high-contrast serif. Long names step down a size so they never break mid-word
  • A foil rule set with the gem, then the date, the time and the place — the time follows the Show time setting of your invitation's cover, and every guest sees the date you picked, whatever their time zone
  • Kindly reply — a button that scrolls to the RSVP form. It only appears when your RSVP section is visible, and never on a save-the-date page

Section heads

Each section opens centred: a foil rule set with the gem of your foil, the section's label in foil small capitals, then its title in the serif and, for the story and gifts, your subtitle or gift message.

Message — an engraved letter

Your message sits on a sheet of the card with a blind-embossed inner frame and a foil bracket in each corner. A long letter steps down a size and aligns to the start of the line, which is easier to read over many lines.

Countdown — foil roundels

One foil roundel per unit, struck like a coin: a milled edge, a smooth face with the number engraved in it, and the unit name in foil capitals underneath. It counts down to your event's date and time in the venue's time zone, and shows your completed message once the moment arrives.

Gallery (Carousel)

Your photos mounted like an album: every photo on a mount of the card, held by four foil photo corners — two columns on a phone and three on wider screens (two for two or four photos, and a single centred photo for one). Every photo is mounted the same way.

Story — the timeline of the years

The signature of Milestone: a long timeline, titled "The story so far" unless you set your own story title. A double foil rule runs down the page and every milestone hangs from it at a foil plaque engraved with that milestone's own date, exactly as you entered it — a full date in your date format, or your own words such as "Summer 1986". A milestone without a date gets the gem of your foil on the rule instead. Under the plaque come its title in the serif, its text and its photo on a mount. On a phone the rule runs down the side of the page; on wider screens it runs down the centre and the milestones alternate either side of it. Every milestone is laid out the same way, and Milestone never groups them into decades or works out years from the dates.

Itinerary — the order of the day

The schedule on one embossed programme card: each day's date (or its label) between two foil rules — a day with neither shows no heading — then every entry with its time stamped in a small foil chip, the moment in the serif, the place in italics and any note, entries divided by a fine dotted rule. The moments are exactly the entries you write — the toasts, the speeches, the first dance again — in your own words. Entry icons are not shown.

Location, Gifts, Event Details, Save the Date and RSVP

These five sections share their structure with Fotify's other picker-coloured designs (Meridian, Thread, Prism and Duotone), dressed in Milestone's colours: embossed cards with a fine foil edge, crisp buttons in the tone of your foil (deep on a light card, bright on a deep one), and Bodoni Moda titles.

  • Location — a map card beside an address card with your address, your directions and an Open in Maps button. When a map can't be shown, the map card draws a pin with the venue's coordinates; without coordinates the address card spans the row
  • Gifts — every registry, payment option, charity and wishlist item is its own card in a grid, grouped under small labels (with a count) when you offer more than one kind. Payment details sit in an inset box with a Copy button, and long account numbers wrap inside the card. Pay links, scan-to-pay QR codes and wishlist reservations appear as buttons on each card
  • Event Details — a card per topic: dress code with your suggested and avoided colours as swatches, where to stay with each hotel as a mini-card (distance, price range, promo code, notes and a Book button), getting there with an icon for each kind of transport, and a full-width FAQ card where each question opens on tap
  • Save the Date (Calendar) — one card with the title and the event date on one side, and Google, Apple (downloads the calendar file) and Outlook buttons on the other
  • RSVP — "Will you join us?" with your RSVP deadline under it, and the reply form on an engraved reply card: a foil edge, an inner engraved frame and a foil seal on its top edge, with the attend / decline choices as two selectable boxes and a send button. On a save-the-date page, the card holds the save-the-date note instead of the form

Closing

A smaller keepsake card with the foil rule and its gem, your closing line (option 5) in the serif, the date and place, and the same Kindly reply button as on the cover.

Sections that use the shared layout

These sections keep Fotify's shared layout and are dressed in Milestone's style:

  • Photo upload, QR code, Table assignment, Playlist, Sub-events, Special treatments and custom sections

Each sits in the same column as the rest of the page on an embossed card with a fine foil edge, with titles in Bodoni Moda and buttons in the tone of your foil. Photos in custom sections are capped in height so a tall portrait never takes over the page.

Milestone has no section of its own for speeches or tributes. To add one, create a custom section with its own title and text, and place it wherever you like among the other sections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Milestone only for wedding anniversaries? A: No. It suits vow renewals, retirements and long-service celebrations too. Its default wording is neutral, and you can change the cover line, the closing line and every section title to fit your occasion.

Q: Where does the number on the medallion come from? A: Only from the Medallion number option. Leave it blank and no medallion is shown; Milestone never works out a number from your dates, your event name or the foil you picked.

Q: I picked the Ruby foil. Why doesn't the cover say "40"? A: The foil only sets the metal and the gem. Type "40" (or any number) in Medallion number to engrave it on the medallion.

Q: Can I use Milestone for a retirement party? A: Yes. Pick any foil, type the years of service as the medallion number or leave it blank, write a cover line such as "Please join us to celebrate the retirement of", and use the story for the milestones of the career.

Q: How do the dates on the story timeline work? A: Each plaque shows the date of its own milestone, exactly as you entered it: a full date appears in your invitation's date format, and text such as "Summer 1986" appears as you typed it. A milestone without a date shows the gem instead of a plaque.

Q: I picked a pale colour. Why are the buttons and the foil darker than I expected? A: Milestone keeps every label readable: on a pale card the foil used for text and lines is deepened until it reads clearly, and the buttons use a deep tone of your foil. The foil surfaces (the medallion, the countdown, the plaques) keep their bright metal.

Q: I don't have a cover photo. Will the cover look empty? A: No. Without a photo the medallion stands on its own over a fine engraved rosette. Without a photo or a number, the gem of your foil sits over a smaller rosette, followed by your cover line and the names.

Q: Does Milestone work in right-to-left languages? A: Yes. In Hebrew and Arabic the layout mirrors: the corner fleurons and photo corners swap sides and the story rule runs down the right side on a phone. Numbers on the medallion and the countdown read left to right as usual, and the cover photo's crop stays as you set it.

Q: Does the page move? A: Only a gentle fade as the cover appears, the medallion settling into place and one sweep of light across the foil around the photo. Guests whose device asks for reduced motion see a still page.
