Volt Template โ Complete Guide
Volt is a loud invitation: a black page wired with one acid colour. Your event name is set huge in a heavy slab serif, your cover photo appears in black and white with a glow of the colour rising from its foot, and beside it sits an ADMIT ONE pass holding the date, the time and the place. Under them, two strips of caution tape cross the whole cover and scroll in opposite directions.
Volt is one of Fotify's simpler designs: its look comes from one colour you choose โ acid lime by default, or any colour at all โ set against black.
This guide covers how Volt looks, the options unique to it, how to apply it to your event, and how it lays out each section of your invitation.
Volt is available on every plan, Free included.
For an overview of the template gallery and the picker, see How to Customize Your RSVP Invitation.
What makes Volt different
Standard templates change colours and fonts over the same shared layout. Volt replaces the layout itself: its own cover and closing, its own section heads, and its own treatment of the message, countdown, gallery, story, programme and reply.
Signature design elements
- Caution tape โ two strips cross the bottom of the cover, one in your colour and one black with striped edges, each printing a line you choose between little stars and scrolling in its own direction. One more strip runs straight across the end of the page. You can turn the tape off
- The ADMIT ONE pass โ a card in your colour beside your cover photo, with the date, the time and the place on ruled lines, a perforated tear line with a notch at each end, and a stub with your pass number (if you set one) and a Reply now button
- Black-and-white photos that glow โ your cover photo, your gallery and your story photos are shown in black and white, with your colour glowing up from their foot and along their edges. On a computer, pointing at a gallery or story photo brings its colours back. The crop you set for your cover photo is kept
- One colour โ pick it from the suggested colours or from the colour picker. Text on it turns black or white, whichever reads better
- Launch-page typography โ Alfa Slab One, a heavy slab serif, for the names and titles; Space Mono for the tape, the pass, the countdown and the small tags; Schibsted Grotesk for the reading text
- Four-point stars โ a star in your colour opens every section, the way a launch page marks its breaks
- Always readable โ whatever colour you pick, even a pale yellow or a near-black, the text, the tags and the buttons are adjusted until they read clearly
When to choose Volt
Volt suits nights with energy:
- Launch parties and product launches โ your brand colour on black, the pass on the cover and a countdown to doors open
- Festivals, club nights and warehouse parties โ the caution tape, the line-up of photos and a programme of day cards with time tags
- Birthdays โ a big name, a bold colour and a reply ticket guests tear off
- Company parties โ set the colour to your brand and the tape to your own line
Whatever the occasion, the photos your guests take matter as much as the invitation. Guests can scan the event QR code and add their photos to the shared gallery. See how Fotify works for parties, corporate events and birthdays.
For a festival poster under a sunset sky, try Lineup. For a black launch page with a ribbon of light, try Signal.
Applying Volt to your event
- Open your event, click Invitation in the sidebar, then the Invitation tab
- In Design Template, click Change template if the gallery is collapsed, and find Volt under Designs (it is listed under the Party filter, and under Corporate and Birthday too)
- Optional: press Try it on to see Volt with your own invitation details in the live preview โ nothing is saved until you press Use this design
- Or click the Volt card to apply it straight away
- Open Volt options below the gallery to pick your colour and the other options described below. Changes save automatically
Volt works on every plan. On free events a small "Made with Fotify" badge appears in the bottom corner of the invitation; any paid plan or an active subscription removes it.
Switching to another template later is non-destructive: your event content stays exactly as you entered it, and your Volt options are kept in case you switch back.
Volt options
Volt has six options of its own. They take the place of the standard colour and font controls, which Volt doesn't use.
1. Accent
The one loud colour on the black page. Pick it two ways:
- A suggested swatch โ Acid lime (default), Signal orange, Hot pink, Electric blue or Safety yellow
- Pick any color โ the last chip opens your device's colour picker, so you can match a brand colour exactly. The colour's code is shown beside the chips
Volt uses it for the caution tape, the ADMIT ONE pass, the reply stub, the buttons, the stars, the time tags and the glow around your photos. Text on it turns black or white, whichever reads better. Any colour works: a very dark colour is lifted until it shows on the black, and where the colour carries text on the black it is shaded until it reads clearly.
2. Caution tape
On by default: the two crossed strips across the cover and the strip at the end of the page. Turn it off for a calmer page.
3. Tape text
The words printed along the tape, repeated between little stars (up to 60 characters). Leave it blank to use the default ("Save the date โข Reserve your spot").
4. Pass number
A number printed on the ADMIT ONE pass and on the stub of the reply ticket, exactly as you type it โ "0042", "A-117" (up to 10 characters). Leave it blank and the pass prints no number: Volt never makes one up.
5. Cover line
The small line above the event name (up to 80 characters). Leave it blank to use the default ("You are invited to").
6. Closing line
The big line at the end of the page (up to 80 characters). Leave it blank to use the default ("See you on the floor").
Every piece of text Volt prints on the invitation โ the cover line, the tape, the labels on the pass ("Admit one", "Date", "Time", "Venue", "No."), the Reply now buttons, the section labels and titles, the countdown units, the word "Day" on the itinerary, the closing line โ can also be rewritten directly on the page: switch the live preview into edit mode and double-click the text. In edit mode the tape in your colour on the cover stands still so you can edit its line. Section titles you have already set in their own settings (story, countdown, gifts, where to stay, getting there, FAQs) are edited in place the same way.
How each section is treated
Cover
Volt's cover replaces the standard header:
- The cover line (option 5) in small spaced capitals between two stars
- Your event name in the heavy slab serif. Long names step down a size so they never break mid-word
- Your cover photo in black and white with a glow of your colour rising from its foot. Without a cover photo, the frame shows a big star over faint hazard stripes
- The ADMIT ONE pass beside the photo (under it on a phone): the date, the time and the place, each on its own ruled line. The time follows the Show time setting of your invitation's cover, the date and the place follow Show date and Show location, and every guest sees the date you picked, whatever their time zone. Under the tear line, the stub holds your pass number (option 4) and a Reply now button that scrolls to the RSVP form. The button only appears when your RSVP section is visible, and never on a save-the-date page
- The caution tape (options 2 and 3) crossing the cover below them
Section heads
Each section opens with a four-point star in your colour, the section's label in small spaced capitals, and its title in the slab serif, centred โ with your subtitle under the story's title.
Message
A short message (up to about 220 characters) is set as a statement in the slab serif, centred. A longer message reads as a letter in the reading face.
Countdown โ the digital clock
A huge digital clock on a black panel: the days, hours and minutes (and seconds, if you show them) as two-digit numbers in Space Mono, split by colons in your colour, with their labels under them and a bar of your colour along the foot of the panel. Under the clock, a Reserve your spot button scrolls to the RSVP form (only when your RSVP section is visible). It counts down to your event's date and time in the venue's time zone, and shows your completed message once the moment arrives.
Gallery (Carousel)
Your photos as a row of tall frames that guests swipe through, in black and white with a glowing edge and a small star tag in the corner.
Story โ line-up cards
Every milestone as a card, the way a launch page introduces its speakers: the photo in black and white with your colour glowing up from its foot, the date in a tag on your colour, then the title and the text. A milestone without a photo shows a big star instead, so the cards stay even. Three to a row on wide screens, two on tablets, one on a phone.
Itinerary โ day cards
Each day is a card, side by side on a wide screen (two or three to a row) and stacked on a phone. The card's head shows the day's date or label (a day heading appears only when the day has a date or a label) and, when your programme runs over several days, a tag with "Day 1", "Day 2"โฆ (the day's place in the programme). Under it, each session: the time in a tag outlined in your colour, the title, the place in a small tag and any note. Entry icons are not shown.
RSVP โ the ticket
"Will you be there?" with your RSVP deadline under it, and the reply form on a perforated ticket: a dashed tear line with a semicircle notch at each end, and a stub in your colour with "Admit one", a star, your pass number (if you set one), the date and the place. The stub sits beside the form on a wide screen and under it on a phone. The ticket never shows a seat, a code or a number you didn't type. On a save-the-date page the ticket holds the save-the-date note instead of the form.
Location, Gifts, Event Details and Save the Date
These four sections share their structure with Fotify's other picker-coloured designs (Meridian, Thread, Prism and Duotone), dressed in Volt's black: dark rounded cards, labels in Space Mono in your colour, slab titles and square buttons in your colour.
- Location โ a map card beside an address card with your address, your directions and an Open in Maps button. When a map can't be shown, the map card draws a pin with the venue's coordinates; without coordinates the address card spans the row
- Gifts โ every registry, payment option, charity and wishlist item is its own card in a grid, grouped under small labels (with a count) when you offer more than one kind. Payment details sit in an inset box with a Copy button, and long account numbers wrap inside the card. Pay links, scan-to-pay QR codes and wishlist reservations appear as buttons on each card
- Event Details โ a card per topic: dress code with your suggested and avoided colours as swatches, where to stay with each hotel as a mini-card (distance, price range, promo code, notes and a Book button), getting there with an icon for each kind of transport, and a full-width FAQ card where each question opens on tap
- Save the Date (Calendar) โ one card with the title and the event date on one side, and Google, Apple (downloads the calendar file) and Outlook buttons on the other
Closing
A big star, your closing line (option 6) in the slab serif, the date and the place in small capitals, a Reply now button, and one last strip of caution tape running straight across the foot of the page (when the tape is on).
Sections that use the shared layout
These sections keep Fotify's shared layout and are dressed in Volt's style:
- Photo upload, QR code, Table assignment, Playlist, Sub-events, Special treatments and custom sections
Each sits in the same column as the rest of the page on a dark rounded card, with titles in the slab serif and buttons in your colour. Photos in custom sections are capped in height so a tall portrait never takes over the page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where does the number on the pass come from? A: Only from the Pass number option, exactly as you type it. Leave it blank and the pass and the ticket stub print no number; Volt never makes one up.
Q: Can I change what the caution tape says? A: Yes. Type your own line in Tape text, or switch the live preview into edit mode and double-click the tape. Leave it blank for "Save the date โข Reserve your spot".
Q: Can I use my brand colour? A: Yes. Set the Accent to your brand colour with Pick any color. The page stays black; the tape, the pass, the buttons, the tags, the stars and the glow take your colour.
Q: Are my photos always black and white? A: On the invitation, yes โ your cover, gallery and story photos are shown in black and white with a glow of your colour, so they sit together on the black page. The people and the scene stay easy to recognise, and on a computer a gallery or story photo comes back to colour when a guest points at it. Your photos themselves are never changed.
Q: Why does the itinerary say "Day 1" and "Day 2"? A: When your programme runs over several days, each day card shows its place in the programme, in the order of the days. A one-day programme shows no number. You can change the word "Day" in the live preview's edit mode.
Q: Does Volt work in right-to-left languages? A: Yes. In Hebrew and Arabic the layout mirrors: the pass moves to the other side of the photo, the tags and labels follow the reading direction, and the tape scrolls the other way. The countdown keeps its clock order, and your cover photo's crop stays as you set it.
Q: Does the page move? A: Only the caution tape, which scrolls slowly. Guests whose device asks for reduced motion see the tape standing still.
