How to Sign In with Passkeys

Passkeys are a faster, more secure way to sign in to Fotify. Instead of waiting for a magic link email, you can sign in with your device's fingerprint, face recognition, or PIN. Passkeys are tied to the email address on your account, so they work right alongside magic links and Google or Microsoft sign-in.

What Is a Passkey?

A passkey is a secure credential stored on your phone, tablet, or computer. When you sign in, your device verifies it's really you with your fingerprint, face, or screen lock โ€” and that's it. There's no password to remember and nothing to type.

Passkeys are:

  • Faster โ€” no waiting for an email link to arrive.
  • More secure โ€” they can't be phished, guessed, or reused across sites.
  • Linked to your email โ€” a passkey only ever signs you in to the account it was created for.

How to Add a Passkey

You add a passkey while signed in, which is how we confirm you own the account's email address.

Step 1: Open Passkey Settings

Sign in to dashboard.fotify.app with your usual method (magic link, Google, or Microsoft). Open the user menu in the top-right corner and select Passkeys.

Step 2: Create the Passkey

Click Add passkey. Optionally give it a name (like "My iPhone") so you can recognize it later, then follow your device's prompt to confirm with your fingerprint, face, or PIN.

Step 3: You're Done

Your new passkey appears in the list. You can add more than one โ€” for example, one on your phone and one on your laptop.

How to Sign In with a Passkey

  1. Go to the Fotify login page.
  2. Click Sign in with a passkey โ€” no need to type your email. You can also tap the email field and pick your passkey from the suggestions your browser shows.
  3. Choose your account if your device asks, then confirm with your fingerprint, face, or PIN.

You'll be signed in immediately โ€” no email link required. If your passkey doesn't show up (this can happen with some older security keys), enter your email address first and then click Sign in with a passkey.

Managing Your Passkeys

From the Passkeys page in your account menu you can:

  • See every passkey on your account, when it was added, and when it was last used.
  • Remove a passkey you no longer use (for example, on a device you've sold or replaced).

Removing a passkey only affects that one credential โ€” your other sign-in methods keep working.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do passkeys replace my magic link or Google sign-in? A: No. Passkeys are an additional way to sign in. You can always still use a magic link or your Google or Microsoft account.

Q: What if I lose my device? A: You can still sign in with a magic link sent to your email, then remove the lost device's passkey from the Passkeys page. If your passkeys are synced (for example through iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager), they'll also be available on your other devices.

Q: Can someone else use my passkey? A: No. A passkey is protected by your device's fingerprint, face, or PIN, and only signs in to the account it was created for.

Q: Why don't I see the passkey button? A: Your browser or device may not support passkeys. Try a recent version of Chrome, Safari, or Edge.
