Guest Playlist: Song Requests on Your Invitation

The Playlist section lets guests request songs straight from your digital invitation — while they RSVP, weeks before the party. They search a music database, pick the track, and it lands in your Playlist tab and on the DJ Dashboard, grouped so repeat requests count as votes.

It is the same queue the QR-code song request page feeds, so nothing changes for your DJ on the night: one list, one place to mark songs as played.

Step 1: Turn the Playlist on

1. Go to your event dashboard at dashboard.fotify.app and open your event
2. Open the Playlist tab (next to Gifts)
3. Click Set up the playlist, then switch on "Enable song requests on the invitation"
4. Click Save Changes

The same editor is available under Invitation → Sections → Playlist, and the Invitation Setup Wizard offers it in its Sections step with AI help for the wording. Wherever you edit it, changes go live on the invitation as soon as you save.

Step 2: Choose what guests see

• Custom Title and Message (optional) — for example "Help us build the playlist" and "Which song gets you on the dance floor?". Leave them blank for the default wording in the invitation's language.
• Show guests what others requested — displays a live "On the list so far" list next to the form, with the guest's own songs highlighted and played songs crossed out. Turn it off if you'd rather keep the list private.
• Let guests add a note — adds an optional note field ("play this for the first dance!"). Notes are only visible to you and your DJ.
• Requests per guest — how many songs each invitation may request. Set it to Unlimited or to a number between 1 and 50. Guests see how many requests they have left.
• Also show on the registration form — puts the same block on your open registration form, for guests who sign themselves up. See below for how limits work there.

Two settings are shared with the QR-code request page and live on the DJ Dashboard: the cooldown between requests and any extra form questions. See customizing the song request form.

What guests see

The section appears on the invitation in the position you choose in Section Order, in the invitation's design — it adapts to every template, including the premium ones.

Guests get:

• A song search with suggestions from a music database as they type; picking a suggestion fills in the artist automatically
• Artist, your name (pre-filled from their invitation) and, if you allowed it, a note
• A Request song button, with their remaining requests shown next to it when you set a limit
• The On the list so far panel, if you switched it on, updated as soon as they submit

Once a song is requested it shows up immediately in your Playlist tab and on the DJ Dashboard, tagged with the guest it came from. If the event has finished, the section explains the party is over instead of showing a form.

Step 3: Manage requests from the Playlist tab

The Playlist tab is your view of the whole queue — requests from the invitation, the registration form and the QR-code page alike:

• Requests, Still to play and Played counts at the top
• Every request grouped by song, with a count when several guests asked for the same track, and new arrivals highlighted as they come in live
• Who asked: requests from the invitation show the guest as a clickable chip — tap it to open their guest details (RSVP, party, contact details) without leaving the tab. Requests from the QR page show the name they typed.
• Guests' notes, when you allowed them
• Search by song or artist, and All / To play / Played filters
• Mark played (or Back to queue) and Remove on each group

Marking a song here also marks it on the DJ Dashboard and the Live Request Display, and vice versa. The Open DJ dashboard button in the header takes you to the DJ view with the shareable links and QR code for the night.

The Set up view next to Requests holds the section settings from Step 2, so you can adjust the wording or the limit without leaving the tab.

Song requests on the registration form

With "Also show on the registration form" on, guests who register through your open link see the same Playlist block on that page. Because they don't have a personal invitation yet, Fotify can't tie a request to a guest, so:

• the request shows the name the guest typed, with no guest chip in the Playlist tab
• the requests per guest limit and the cooldown apply per device instead of per invitation
• the "On the list so far" panel doesn't highlight their own songs

Everything else — the queue, the DJ Dashboard, marking songs played — works exactly the same.

Tips

• Ask early. Guests request songs while they RSVP, so your DJ gets a crowd-sourced set list weeks ahead instead of a queue on the night.
• Set a limit. Two or three requests per guest keeps the list focused; unlimited works best for small parties.
• Keep the QR code too. The Playlist section is for the run-up; the song request QR code on the tables covers the party itself. Both feed the same queue.
• Brief the DJ with the Live Request Display, which now includes the invitation requests from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do guests need an app or an account to request a song? A: No. The section is part of the invitation page they already open to RSVP. They search, pick a song and tap Request.

Q: Does the Playlist replace the DJ Dashboard? A: No. It feeds the same queue. The Playlist tab is where you manage requests as the organizer; the DJ Dashboard adds the shareable links, the QR code and the booth display for the night.

Q: Can I see which guest requested a song? A: Yes. Requests made from the invitation are tied to the guest's invitation, so their name appears as a chip you can tap to open their details. Requests from the registration form or the QR page only carry the name the guest typed.

Q: Where do I set the cooldown between requests or add extra questions? A: On the DJ Dashboard under Form Settings — those settings apply to the invitation section, the registration form and the QR-code page alike. The per-guest limit, the note field and the visibility of other requests are set in the Playlist tab.

Q: Can guests request the same song twice? A: They can, and it counts against their limit. In your Playlist tab and on the DJ Dashboard identical songs are grouped with a request count, so repeats read as votes.

Q: What happens if I turn the section off later? A: It disappears from the invitation immediately. Requests already made stay in your Playlist tab and on the DJ Dashboard, and guests can still request songs from the QR-code page.

Q: Can a guest change or remove a request? A: Not from the invitation. You can remove any request from the Playlist tab or the DJ Dashboard.
