Thread Template — Complete Guide

Thread is a minimalist invitation template built on a single idea: one fine line in your colour runs down the whole page. It draws a loop, an infinity sign or a wave on the cover, then leaves the cover and ties every section to the next — landing in a small knot above each title, carrying the photos of your gallery, the milestones of your story and the stops of your day — until it ties off at the end. The page is calm, centred and airy, with elegant typography and plenty of white space.

Thread is one of Fotify's simpler, modern designs: its character comes from the line and one colour you choose — any colour at all.

This guide covers how Thread looks, the options unique to it, how to apply it to your event, and how it lays out each section of your invitation.

Thread is available on every plan, Free included.

For an overview of the template gallery and the picker, see How to Customize Your RSVP Invitation.

What makes Thread different

Standard templates change colours and fonts over the same shared layout. Thread replaces the layout itself: its own cover and closing, a line that connects the sections, and its own treatment of the countdown, gallery, story and schedule.

Signature design elements

  • One line, top to bottom — the thread enters the cover, draws its motif, and runs on between every section into a small knot above the next title. Sections without a bespoke layout (photo upload, QR code, seating…) stay on the thread too, so the page always reads as one line
  • A motif on the cover — a loop, an infinity sign, a wave or a straight line with a knot at its centre
  • Your colour, any colour — pick one of the suggested swatches or any colour from the colour picker. A very light colour is deepened just enough for the line to stay visible on the paper, and the small labels and buttons are adjusted separately so their text stays readable
  • A line that draws itself — on the cover the motif draws itself in as the page opens, and each stretch of thread unrolls as guests scroll to it
  • Solid, stitched or dotted — the whole line, motif included, can be a fine solid line, a stitched one or a row of dots
  • Elegant type, three ways — your names in italic Cormorant Garamond, in a flowing script (Pinyon Script), or in a modern sans (Manrope), with Inter for reading text and small, widely spaced capitals for labels
  • Four papers — Ivory, White, Stone, or Night, the dark version

When to choose Thread

Thread suits events that want to feel elegant and personal without being ornate:

  • Weddings — the infinity or loop motif in gold, blush or sage on ivory paper, with your names in script, is a modern take on classic wedding stationery. It suits civil ceremonies, garden weddings, city weddings and destination weddings alike
  • Engagement parties, vow renewals and anniversaries — the line from the cover to the timeline of the day tells your story simply
  • Corporate evenings — a gala dinner, an awards night, a client reception or a company anniversary: pick Modern sans, the wave or straight line and your brand colour on White or Night paper. See corporate events
  • Conferences and offsites with a programme — the itinerary becomes a clear timeline, one stop per session, with the time on one side and the session on the other
  • Milestone birthdays and family celebrations that want something refined rather than festive

If you want a bolder split-screen page in your brand colour, try Meridian. For soft gradient light and frosted cards, try Prism. For formal engraved stationery with a wax seal, try Heirloom.

Applying Thread to your event

  1. Open your event, click Invitation in the sidebar, then the Invitation tab
  2. In Design Template, click Change template if the gallery is collapsed, and find Thread under Designs (it is listed under the Wedding, Corporate and Elegant filters)
  3. Optional: press Try it on to see Thread with your own invitation details in the live preview — nothing is saved until you press Use this design
  4. Or click the Thread card to apply it straight away
  5. Open Thread options below the gallery to pick your thread colour and the other options described below. Changes save automatically

Thread works on every plan. On free events a small "Made with Fotify" badge appears in the bottom corner of the invitation; any paid plan or an active subscription removes it.

Switching to another template later is non-destructive: your event content stays exactly as you entered it, and your Thread options are kept in case you switch back.

Thread options

Thread has eight options of its own. They take the place of the standard colour and font controls, which Thread doesn't use.

1. Thread colour

The colour of the line and its knots, of the small labels (eyebrows, times, dates) and of the buttons. Pick it two ways:

  • A suggested swatch — Gold (default), Terracotta, Sage, Dusty blue, Blush, Navy, Plum or Charcoal
  • Pick any color — the last chip opens your device's colour picker, so you can match your wedding palette or your company's colour exactly. The colour's code is shown beside the chips

Any colour works. Thread never uses your colour where it would be hard to see or read: the line is deepened (or, on Night paper, lightened) just enough to stand out from the paper, the small labels just enough to be comfortably readable, and the buttons get a fill and label colour that read clearly together. A pale colour therefore looks slightly deeper in places than the exact code you picked, while keeping its hue.

2. Paper

The page behind the thread:

  • Ivory (default) — a warm off-white
  • White
  • Stone — a soft grey-beige
  • Night — a deep blue-black page with light text, the dark version

3. Cover motif

The shape the thread draws on the cover before it runs down the page:

  • Loop (default) — a single loop, like a ribbon tied once
  • Infinity — a figure of eight
  • Wave — a gentle S-curve
  • Straight line — a straight line with a knot at its centre

Infinity and Loop suit weddings; Wave and Straight line suit any event.

4. Line

How the thread is drawn, everywhere on the page:

  • Solid (default)
  • Stitched — short dashes, like a seam
  • Dotted

5. Typeface

The face of your event name and the closing line, and of the section titles:

  • Classic serif (default) — your names in italic Cormorant Garamond, titles in Cormorant Garamond
  • Script names — your names and the closing line written in Pinyon Script, a flowing calligraphic hand; titles stay in Cormorant Garamond
  • Modern sans — names and titles in Manrope; suits a corporate evening

Reading text, labels and buttons are always set in Inter.

6. Draw the thread as guests scroll

On by default: when the invitation opens, the cover motif draws itself in, and each stretch of thread between the sections unrolls as it scrolls into view. The unrolling between sections needs a browser that supports scroll-linked animation (recent Chrome and Edge, for example); in other browsers the line is simply there. Guests who have reduced motion turned on on their device always see the finished line. Turn the option off and the thread is drawn from the start for everyone.

7. Cover line

The small line above your names on the cover (up to 80 characters). Leave it blank to use the default ("You are warmly invited"). Try "Together with their families", "You are invited" or "Please join us for".

8. Closing line

The line where the thread ends, at the bottom of the page (up to 80 characters), set in the same typeface as your names. Leave it blank to use the default ("Until then"). Try "See you in June", "Forever starts here" or "Thank you".

Every piece of text Thread prints on the invitation — the cover line, the Kindly reply button, the section labels and titles, the countdown units, the closing line — can also be rewritten directly on the page: switch the live preview into edit mode and double-click the text. Section titles you have already set in their own settings (story, countdown, gifts, where to stay, getting there, FAQs) are edited in place the same way.

How each section is treated

Cover

A centred cover replaces the standard header:

  • Your cover photo in a round medallion framed by a fine ring in your thread colour (the cover simply starts with the text when there is no photo). The photo keeps the horizontal crop you set
  • Cover line (option 7) in small capitals, then your names, set large in the typeface you chose. Long names step down a size so they never break mid-word
  • Date and time, separated by a small dot, then the place. The time follows the Show time setting of your invitation's cover, and every guest sees the date you picked, whatever their time zone
  • Kindly reply — a button in your thread colour that scrolls to the RSVP form. It only appears when your RSVP section is visible, and never on a save-the-date page
  • The motif (option 3), from which the thread leaves the cover at the bottom centre

Section heads

The stretch of thread from above lands in a small open knot, then comes the section's small label in your colour, the title and, for the story and gifts, your subtitle or gift message — all centred on the line.

Message

Your invitation message centred in the display typeface, like the body of a letter. A long letter switches to a comfortable reading size, aligned to the start of the line.

Countdown

The numbers strung on a short horizontal thread, with a knot between each — days, hours, minutes and (if you switch them on) seconds, each over its label. When the countdown ends, your completion message replaces the numbers.

Gallery (Carousel)

Your photos hang from a line strung across the page, each pinned with a small knot and tilted very slightly, alternating left and right. The row scrolls sideways (swipe on a phone, scroll or use the keyboard on a computer). With one to three photos, they hang centred on the line.

Story

Your milestones hang off the thread. On a phone the line runs down the start edge of the page with each milestone beside its knot; from 900 pixels wide it runs down the centre and the milestones alternate sides. Each milestone shows its photo, date, title and description, and every milestone is laid out the same way. Your story subtitle appears under the section title.

Itinerary

The day as stops on the thread. From 720 pixels wide the line runs down the middle, with the time on one side of each knot and the event, place and note on the other; on a phone it runs down the start edge. Each day's date sits on the line as a small tag.

Location, Gifts, Event Details, Save the Date and RSVP

These five sections share their structure with Fotify's other picker-coloured designs (Meridian, Prism and Duotone), drawn in Thread's paper, typefaces and fine-bordered cards:

  • Location — a map card beside an address card with your address, your directions and an Open in Maps button. When a map can't be shown, the map card draws a pin with the venue's coordinates; without coordinates the address card spans the row
  • Gifts — every registry, payment option, charity and wishlist item is its own card in a grid, grouped under small labels (with a count) when you offer more than one kind. Payment details sit in an inset box with a Copy button, and long account numbers or wallet addresses wrap inside the card. Pay links, scan-to-pay QR codes and wishlist reservations appear as buttons on each card
  • Event Details — a card per topic: dress code with your suggested and avoided colours as swatches, where to stay with each hotel as a mini-card (distance, price range, promo code, notes and a Book button), getting there with an icon for each kind of transport, and a full-width FAQ card where each question opens on tap
  • Save the Date (Calendar) — one card with the title and the event date on one side, and Google, Apple (downloads the calendar file) and Outlook buttons on the other
  • RSVP — "Will you join us?" with your RSVP deadline under it in a soft pill, and the reply form on a card framed by a fine line in your thread colour, set just off the card like a stationery border. The attend / decline choices become two selectable boxes, and the send button takes your thread colour. On a save-the-date page, the card holds the save-the-date note instead of the form

Closing

The thread ties off in a final knot above your closing line (option 8), followed by the date and place, and an outlined Reply button.

Sections that use the shared layout

These sections keep Fotify's shared layout and are dressed in Thread's style:

  • Photo upload, QR code, Table assignment, Playlist, Sub-events, Special treatments and custom sections

The thread runs into each of them like any other section. They sit in the same centred column, on a Thread card, with titles in the display typeface, pill-shaped buttons and your thread colour on the main actions. The upload button takes your thread colour, table numbers appear as chips in your colour, and photos in custom sections are rounded and capped in height so a tall portrait never takes over the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I match the thread to my wedding colours exactly? A: Yes. Click the last chip in the Thread colour option (Pick any color) and choose your colour in your device's colour picker. If it is very pale, Thread deepens the line and the labels slightly so they stay visible on the paper, keeping your hue.

Q: Is Thread suitable for a corporate event? A: Yes. Pick Modern sans, the Wave or Straight line motif and your brand colour, on White or Night paper. The cover line and every section title can be rewritten for your occasion ("An evening for our partners", "Programme").

Q: Why doesn't the line unroll as I scroll? A: Either Draw the thread as guests scroll is off, your device has reduced motion turned on, or your browser doesn't support scroll-linked animation yet (the cover motif still draws itself in). In every case the full line is shown, so nothing is missing.

Q: I don't have a cover photo. Will the cover look empty? A: No. Without a photo the cover starts with the cover line and your names, and the motif below them carries the design.

Q: Does Thread work in right-to-left languages? A: Yes. In Hebrew and Arabic the layout mirrors: on phones the story and the itinerary run down the right edge, and labels and buttons follow the reading direction. The cover motif is a drawing and stays as it is.

Q: Can I use custom RSVP fields with Thread? A: Yes. Custom fields (dropdowns, dates, checkboxes, file uploads and so on) pick up Thread's fields and labels automatically.
